For the parents, teachers and enthusiastic adults, the following are my go-to books for our nature explorations. Anna Botsford Comstock's book, The Handbook of Nature Study is an absolute favourite of mine. It covers most every area of nature study you could be drawn to. The book is divided into four parts; the first is 'The Teaching of Nature Study', the second part is 'Animals, the third is Plants and the fourth is Earth and Sky'. It is an absolute essential for every household in my opinion.

The second book I would recommend is a great one to turn to on those days when everyone needs a little extra coaxing to get up and out is, 'A year of Forest School- Outdoor Play and Skill-Building Fun for Every Season by Jane Worroll & Peter Houghton'. The book is divided by season and within each season you can find games, activities and guides to learning new skills, most of which require no materials other than what you can already find in the forest.
